Revised Reading Response

Even if you are tall or short, chubby or skinny, funny or boring, your true friends and family will always be by your side. Charlie in the book The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky had just became a freshman and made 2 friends Sam and Patrick. These two new friends of his became a big part of his life. He has to go through deaths and sadness in his family, but he goes through great happy moments in life with his friends. He faces a lot of struggles in his life, but the great thing is that he stays strong through some of it.

Charlie has to deal with a lot of sadness in the book. Toward the end of the book when Charlie gets sick and has to be in the hospital for 2 months he has incredible friends by his side. Two seniors; Sam and Patrick became friends with him in the beginning of the book even though he is a freshman and they are seniors. "He even bought me a letter from Sam, and Sam said she was going back in August, and if i got any better by then, she and Patrick would drive me through the tunnel," Sam, Patrick, and Charlie used to go in their car and Sam would stick her head out of the car and they would just ride under the tunnel. The tunnel was an important place for Charlie because that was the reason they all became friends. Charlie would love to go back under the tunnel since he hasn't been there in a while because his friends are now in college. Charlie has really good friends that are there for him and care about him a lot. 

Charlie has to deal with family issues and deaths. Throughout the whole entire book Charlie struggles with feeling sad because of his Aunt Helens and his friend Michaels death. Charlie cries and cries throughout the whole book. "Then I started screaming at the guidance counselor that Michael could have talked to me. And I started crying even harder." Charlie is referring to how Michael, his best friend committed suicide because he had no one, but Charlie knew that wasn’t true and that he had him. Charlie felt like it was his fault for Michaels death, he thought that he was the reason that Michael killed himself was because of Charlie, but that wasn't true. Charlie felt terrible and he felt like he was going into depression because of deaths and because of his crying all the time.

Friends wont always be there for you but family will. That’s the saying in life, but I think that Charlie has both. Charlie has his friends and family that are always there for him. Charlie is a very inspiring character but he can act like a little baby sometimes. Charlie will definitely make it big in life with his friends and family by his side. I thought this was a very good book because it shows a life of a kid who is in high school and shows how crazy life can be for a teenager.
